I've followed this brand for years now and add a piece or two from their collections to my closet each season. Spring 2014 is further proof that sisters Melanie and Amanda Kain have taken this label beyond luxe tee shirts. Scroll down to the end of the post for shopping links. First, here's what Melanie had to say about their latest collex:
Dena ~ What inspired this collection?
Melanie ~ "We looked to find the soft light in everything. Our floral silk has bricky-reds that melt out into soft pinks, and fading is a theme throughout the collection. Dark blue on light blue indigo, silver to white, navy to nude, we wanted to find gentle transition colors. It's not exactly sunset, but it's that moment in the afternoon when the light gets a bit less intense and you realize the day will not last forever."
Dena ~ How has the collection evolved over the past few seasons?
Melanie ~ "A big part of our evolution has been working with specialty dye processes and washes. Our dip-dye pieces from this season (including the Porter Dress) are all done by hand, so we can create really lovely, soft color fades. We worked with indigo fabric for the first time this season, which is all about getting that perfectly worn-in, bleached look. We're still working with signature soft fabrics, moving into linens and gauze, and finding ways to personalize them. We're working with paint for Summer 2014, which speaks to the 'artist in her workshop' inside all of us."
Dena ~ What are you favorite looks/pieces from this collex?
Melanie ~ "The Gabi Tee really has it all. It's a little nautical, a little vintage, and has a favorite detail on the hem, a navy blind stitch for contrast. It's just a touch like a sailor's wife in Marseilles hand-stitched it."
Dena ~ What other brands do you wear with your own designs?
Melanie ~ "Dieppa Restrepo oxfords, Rag & Bone jeans, fellow LA labels Black Crane, TOM TOM, and Raquel Allegra."
